The Power of Love
If you really want to find out whether love has such great power,
you can do so by the simple process of learning love and trying it for
yourself. In order to do this, you must re-educate your
subconsciousness. You must form new thought habits of love and
compassion and friendliness and joy, so that your instinctive and
natural reaction to every situation, every person and every animal may
be one of love.
This is not difficult. It is easy, because it is working in
harmony with the laws of nature. It seems difficult to us at first.
But this is because we have not taken it as a serious assignment from
God. We have dismissed it as unnecessary.
How can one learn this great love which is a powerful, radiant and
life-giving emotion, charged with healing power both to the one who
learns to love and the one who is loved?
By practice. Commit to a time of quiet. Our success or failure,
our health or illness, our triumph in love or our defeat by hate will
depend upon that tiny effort of attention by which we think clearly
concerning our choice: shall we keep our appointed time of quiet or
shall we set it aside in favor of something else?
Until the new thought-habit of love becomes stronger than the old
thought-habit of dislike, we must patiently correct each uncharitable
thought that passes through the mind and replace it with a thought of
love.
